As part of the continued introduction of the Auto-Guide satellite guidance system, a Challenger MT855 located in South Africa was successfully equipped with the system during April.
Auto-Guide operates using GPS technology to automatically steer the tractor, and use of the system can reduce operator fatigue and improve both speed and efficiency in the field.
The Challenger is currently operating using the Omnistar HP correction signal giving Decimeter accuracy, which is ideally suited for planting and tillage operations. On farm testing has shown that the system performs very well and is ideal for the large fields and machines used in South African agriculture.
As well as being used for a number of on farm demonstrations the Challenger also made an appearance at the Nampo show in May, where potential customers could experience the benefits of Auto-Guide first hand. The success of these demonstrations has already resulted in a number of Challenger customers specifying Auto-Guide on their new machines, and existing customers asking for the system to be fitted.
